KABUL, June 7 (Xinhua) -- Afghan security personnel have discovered arms and ammunition including five pieces of Kalashnikovs in parts of Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan, an army statement said Friday.
The contraband, which includes five pieces of Kalashnikovs, six stock pistols, a piece of rocket launcher, bullets and other military equipment, was discovered during two separate operations in Police District 21 and Sarobi District, the statement said.
Two suspects have been arrested for keeping the weaponry illegally, the statement said, adding the arrested individuals would be referred to concerned authorities for further investigation.
As part of efforts to ensure lasting peace and security in the post-war country, the Afghan interim government has vowed to collect arms and ammunition from anyone living outside the security organs. ■
