KABUL, June 7 (Xinhua) -- The Afghan interim government's Prime Minister Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund on Saturday called on the opposition to return to their homeland Afghanistan and resume normal life with dignity.
"No matter whether the opposition is women or men, inside or abroad, return to your country and live with dignity. No one would harass you. This is our promise," Akhund said in his speech after offering Eid al-Adha prayers.
The supreme leader of the Afghan interim government Hibatullah Akhundzada announced general amnesty to all the opposition and those who served the U.S.-backed Afghan administration, which collapsed with the withdrawal of U.S.-led forces from Afghanistan in August 2021.
Hinting at the travel ban on Afghan nationals entering the U.S., Hassan Akhund also urged former U.S. allies and all those Afghans who served Washington's interests to return to Afghanistan.
"Some are concerned over the travel ban for entry to America; I am calling on these people to return home, although they had served American interests for 20 years to destroy the Islamic system. You are under general amnesty and your security is ensured," the state-run Radio and Television of Afghanistan quoted Hassan Akhund as saying.
Afghanistan celebrated Eid al-Adha, the largest annual religious festival, on Saturday in a peaceful environment amid tight security where the prayer leaders prayed for lasting peace and prosperity in the post-war country. ■
